ABM is one of the most misunderstood GTM motions.

Simply put, you work backward from a list of target accounts.

Sales and marketing go after the same companies, at the same time.

Getting it right is mostly a RevOps job, and these are the outcomes to aim for:

1. ICP Model

The ICP comes from your existing data:

  • Analyze your closed-won and lost accounts

  • Finalise firmographics

  • Collect the custom data points your reps check before reaching out

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: All departments are aligned on which accounts to go after.

2. TAM Mapping

Three steps to build a full TAM:

  • Pull from multiple sources and dedupe

  • Qualify every account with Claygent

  • Fill in contact info with BetterContact and Findymail

Tools: AI Ark, Ocean.io, DiscoLike, Claude Code.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: Every qualified account in your TAM mapped, with contact info for every stakeholder that matters.

3. CRM Enrichment

Before enrichment, clean the CRM:

  • Enrich every company and contact in Clay

  • Add the custom data points your reps already check

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: Every data point your sales team would research manually is captured automatically, so they never leave the CRM.

4. Signal Tracking

A few signal tools to explore:

  • Clay for custom signals

  • Fibbler for ad engagement

  • Jungler for social signals

  • Rodz for competitive signals

  • RB2B for website visitors

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: Intent signals routed to your sales team, so they always focus on the warmest, highest-intent accounts.

5. Sales and marketing enablement

Awareness scores aggregate signals into 5 stages:

  • Identified

  • Aware

  • Interested

  • Evaluating

  • Selecting

Each stage triggers tasks in sequencers (Nooks) for reps, while ads synced through Clay target the same accounts.

Tier 1 accounts get longer sequences, more touchpoints and a bigger ad budget.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: The infrastructure that lets sales and marketing put the right amount of effort into each account.

6. Reporting

Build ABM-specific dashboards in the CRM:

  • Accounts in each awareness stage, month over month

  • Deals influenced by signals

  • Tier 1 accounts with no activity in the last 30 days

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲: Awareness stage tracking for every account and ICP pipeline progression monitoring.

TL;DR: ABM means you:

  • Know exactly which accounts to target

  • Never miss a buying signal from a target account again

  • Track the entire journey to always know who's ready to buy

  • Turn your CRM into your GTM command center
