Sales reps shouldn’t build their own lists.
The best way to scale a GTM motion is to have one central target account list with every relevant company in your TAM.
Built by one person, your GTM Engineer.
Everything else works backwards from it:
Outbound
ABM Ads
Targeted campaigns
A few years ago, mapping a full TAM meant scraping, cleaning, and enriching by hand. A lot of teams didn't bother and just pulled a ZoomInfo list.
But that’s no longer necessary.
Here’s how we map out TAMs in 9 steps (the 2026 way):

1. Start with your CRM
Enrich and analyze closed-won accounts to find commonalities
Get qualitative input from GTM teams on what makes a great account
2. Build your ICP model
Base it on three sets of data: firmographics, technographics, and account fit signals
Backtest against closed-won. 95%+ should qualify if the model is right.
3. Diversified list building
Pull broad lists from 2+ sources (databases like Apollo, Ocean.io, or scraping tools like Apify, Serper)
Don't over-rely on filters. Many software companies aren't tagged under the software industry.
4. Data cleanup
Merge separate lists into one source of truth
Find missing data points and validate every domain is operational
5. Initial qualification
Design a research agent for binary qualification based on product and industry fit
Use lower-cost models like 4o-mini or Haiku given the scale
6. Deep enrichment
Order enrichments so the ones most likely to disqualify a company run first
For qualified accounts, layer in custom research points relevant to your GTM
7. Score every account
Score every surviving account into Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3
Avoid intent signals in scoring. This is purely account fit.
8. Stakeholder mapping
Analyze the titles typically involved in your deals and split them into decision makers, champions, and influencers
Source those titles at every qualified company
9. Push it back to your CRM
Load companies, contacts, and custom properties into your CRM (for large TAMs, just upload Tier 1s)
Turn the TAM workflow into an automated CRM enrichment flow so every new record gets the same research
So what do you do with this?
Once the TAM lives inside the CRM, reps stop building lists. They just build segments off it.
That's 90%+ of the effort going into activity instead of prospecting admin. Which is where the actual pipeline gets made.
